It may be the end of October, but fall is far from over. We’ve got at lease another month of scarf and sweater weather before we have to pull out the serious coats here in New Hampshire. It’s just one of my favorite things about the season. Scarves may be necessary in winter, but they’re just plain fun in fall. So I made another card for the A Muse Lounge Fall Favorites Challenge that’s not as much fall-themed as scarf-themed.
My little fawn is wearing a scarf made of gingham ribbon (for this week’s Clean and Simple gingham challenge) carefully tucked through and around little slits cut into the cardstock next to it’s neck. I love that little trick! It was also masked so I could stamp the forest in the background. I couldn’t help adding a bit of Flower Soft to the trees and ground–it’s new to my stash and I keep hoping we’ll see the first wet flakes of fall soon. Yes. I like snow. Copious amounts of the stuff is really the only thing that puts winter ahead of fall in my book.
I used one other trick to get the perfect shade of pink. I’m all out of the lovely Rose Red, but I have plenty of the shockingly bright (and recently retired) Pink Passion. So I inked the edges with a little Antique Linen Distress ink to bring color intensity down a couple notches to match the ribbon. A light sponging of subtle Distress inks, like Antique Linen, Pumice Stone, Scattered Straw, or Tattered Rose, can make your paper stash a lot more flexible.
And one last card for the fall favorites challenge using last week’s FTL sketch. Beer is one of my fall favorites. Well, it’s really a year-round favorite, but who could say no to an overflowing stein during Oktoberfest? Certainly not me. I was able to say no to the boxes in the original sketch and let the steins stand on their own. And if you’re looking for a great guy sentiment, check your stash of coffee and Halloween stamps. Any that mention brews or brewing pair up perfectly with beer images, especially if the man in your life is a home brewer.
What’s your favorite fall beverage?
