Strawberry Shortcake
I bought a two pound box of strawberries at the grocery store last night for $5. Half of them are gone already. They're just so big and juicy this season. And did I mention fragrant? The strawberry crop this year has been so good that I can't stand it. Everytime I walk through the produce section I smell them and end up with a box of them in my cart.
I had a big bowl of strawberry shortcake for dinner last night. And before you start thinking about how unhealthy that was, let me explain what strawberry shortcake is in my family: fresh strawberries with sprinkle of sugar, cut and mashed with a serrated biscut cutter, over a slightly sweet bisquick biscuit topped with fat free cool whip. Ohhh god, it's heavenly. I also made a strawberry banana smoothie for breakfast. In fact, I think I've probably eaten several pounds of strawberries in the last few weeks. Too bad blueberries aren't enjoying the same kind of boom because I like them even more.
And on a semi-related note: Does it irk anyone else that Strawberry Shortcake, the cartoon character we loved as children, has been modernized? She wears trendy clothes and carries a purse now for pete's sake.

I'm with you Sarah. I miss the old Strawberry Shortcake. I wish I still had all the dolls from when I was 4. But alas, they were the victims of a cleaning spree by my mom.

I have yet to see said modernized Strawberry Shortcake. My Strawberry Shortcake doll and all her little friends, however, became victims of our litters of puppies. I suppose if you're going to have a doll that smells like food, you should go letting it lay on the floor to get chewed by hungry little puppy mouths. Of course, they also chewed our dirty socks, so there is no accounting for taste.
