Confessions of a Fugitive Mind

All Made Up
I walked the shiny, happy aisles of Target today, completely at home. Until I got to the makeup aisle. Now that the wedding date is looming, I need to finalize my hair and makeup plan. But the dazzling array of creams, powders, and creamy powders has me stumped. I can handle blush, eye shadow, and all kinds of lip products, but I can't for the life of me take the foundation plunge. I'm not a makeup girl, but I think I need a little to keep myself looking fresh and pretty on the big day. I think it's time to hit the makeup counters at the mall to figure out exactly what I need. Any recommendations?

Make sure you pick things that are matte and not shiny or sparkly. I love wearing "light diffusing" foundation because it draws attention away from blemishes, but a recently married coworker got her photos back to discover that she looked like an oil slick because of the foundation her make up artist used. I think Cover Girl sells sample sizes of some of their foundations, so you can audition them before hand. If you're not going to wear them on a regular basis, you don't even need to take the plunge and go for a full bottle.

Sarah,
You are a natural beauty. You need nothing in the makeup department.
Love,
Mom

I would have no idea what to tell you. I have yet to master the forms of makeup you have already covered. Good luck!

Ooops, more comments - if you're going to the mall, try Clinique. I'm the whitest person in the world and that's the only mall counter with light enough products. A lot of Lancome products are designed with the Latina population in mind (so their a bit more yellow or olive) and Estee Lauder is designed for "older" (i.e. above 40, which I don't think is old) women (extra moisturizers, so it'll be heavy and you'll hate it). If you're more olive or have dry skin, though, you'll like either. Of course, nothing beats Sephora if you have one near you.

I definitely recommend going to the Sephora store in the Natick Mall. They have every single makeup brand you can think of (well at least the slightly more upscale brands) and you can try every product they sell. They have lots of workers there who can tell you what would look best and help you put it on and they give you samples as well. I also have found that they are not pushy, but maybe that was my luck. Now mind you I am not a makeup girl, but I had a ton of fun in there trying on all sorts of different things... I even used the Christian Dior foundation that you spray on sort of like you are airbrushing yourself. That was fun and it actually looked nice too... too bad it was $60 for the can!

I don't think you need any kind of foundation. It will be hot for the pictures outside and melt off. With you nice rosy complextion, you should be fine with an oil absorbing pressed powder to cut down on shine for the ceremony and photos. I agree with Mom - just let your natural beauty show. If I had your awesome complextion I would never hide it behind make-up :)

Clinique is great - when I use foundation, I use their "Almost Makeup" because it feels nice & light and is sheer but does make you look a little more "finished". There is a Sephora in the Burlington Mall as well which has a wide array of everything you can imagine (Clinique included), and you can test it all right there.
I would recommend either doing Sephora (if you want help, let me know, I view any place with that much lip gloss and bubble bath as a magical wonderland) - or you might want to just go to a Clinique counter (Macy's in Burlington has one) and letting them help you pick the perfect foundation. They are more than happy to help you test makeup and find the right color & type of makeup for any event or just for everyday.
Good luck!

I know nothing about foundation and all that, hence I paid an insane amount of money to have my make up done for my wedding. When I had my make up done they put this awesome fixative spray on me from www.bennye.com. The stuff rocks. It'll keep your make up on through the worst of the heat, and any happy bridal tears you may shed on your wedding day. It doesn't feel cakey or heavy, and it washes right off at the end of the day. Something to think about if you are going to be spending any time outside in August.
