Surprise!
Amy and a few other staff members schemed to get me upstairs for a "meeting" this afternoon. When I got to the conference room I was showered with congratulations, refreshments, and presents from WPI staff. Amy managed to pull off the surprise, although things started to get fishy this morning when Alex overheard me trying to schedule a lab test for later in the day and Amy rushed out to tell me that we all had to meet with her boss at 2. I didn't think too much of it though. It wasn't until we went past the director's office and headed up to the archives conference room that I figured it out though.
I'm not usually a present person, but I have to say that the best part of the shower was the group gift. Amy asked everyone to contribute a favorite recipe (or two) and put together a beautiful recipe book for Jon and I. And then she asked everyone who contributed a dessert recipe to bring it to the shower. So as I'm sitting there noshing on fabulous sweets, making a mental note to ask for the recipes later, they were wrapped up in front of me. I couldn't have asked for a better gift!
Thanks to everyone who helped make my afternoon so joyous.
