All Quiet on the Eastern Front

  • I've been neglecting my journal. Bad Sarah. I swear I can catch you up. Not that there's a lot, but it's all interesting to someone, if not myself in a few years.
  • That sinus pressure I had last week? It turned into full-blown sinusitis, complete with a sore throat, sneezing, sniffling, and most recently, coughing fits. I'm taking these coughing fits as a sign that I'm soon to be rid of this apparently contagious scourge. That's right. Jon caught it too.
  • After mulling it over for a few weeks I've decided not to become a Stampin' Up demonstrator. At least not right now. As much as I like their stuff and love teaching people, I'm not sure I'll be able to do it. And $200 is an awful lot of money to spend on something I'm not sure will work out. I'll just host a few workshops a year and be happy with that.
  • I scrapped with Amy and Carol on Monday night at their Creative Memories consultant's workshop. I forgot how much I enjoyed social scrapping. The good news is that we're going to try to make it a monthly thing. Hooray. Scrapping and Moe's at least once a month!
  • The Sox are on a losing streak like I haven't seen before. Every morning the news seems to be reporting another player injury or illness. Did we make some sort of deal with the devil to be so hot before the All-Star break? And if we did, shouldn't we have negotiated to have him come for us sometime after the playoffs?
  • Gillian is going to hell for introducting me to Puzzle Pirates<.
  • I'm going to make a padded headboard for our bed. I have the foam and have sketched a frame. Now I just need to pick fabric, since Jo-Ann's has 50% off home decor fabrics during their Labor Day sale this weekend. Should I use a warm chenile upholstry fabric, a sturdy canvas, or faux suede?
  • My husband is officially old. He turned 30 last Friday, making him my old man. Unfortunately, it also reminded me just how close I am to being 30. Yipes!

Death By Sinus Pressure

After what felt like a good night's sleep (at least for me -- Jon ended up on the couch because I was snoring so much) I woke up with a real pisser of a sinus headache. All I wanted to do was go back to bed, but that wouldn't have made my sinuses feel any less on fire. Now, a few hours later, I'm feeling better after taking DayQuil and drinking most of a large iced coffee. I just want to make it through the day so I can crash later tonight.

Marriage: Year Two

Today is the first day of my second year of marriage to Jon. The first year has been wonderful, but I hope we'll get even better with age.

We celebrated yesterday with forbidden pizza at Uno's, antiquing, a homemade meal, and a killer cheesecake. And did I mention champagne to go with our year-old cake? We (and by we I mean mostly me) finished off a bottle of the J we had at our reception in Maine. The cake (from the reception in Michigan) was surprisingly edible, but no match for the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.

The traditional first anniversary gift is paper, so I made Jon a mini scrapbook to celebrate our first full year as a married couple. He made me an adorable scrapbook page using 3-D stickers and gave me the Niagara Falls print I've been lusting after for the last year. I can't wait to frame it and hang it in our room to remind us of our wedding overlooking the falls.

The End

This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. It is, instead, the end of the beginning.

Playtime!

The stamps are here! The stamps are here!

Deb dropped them off late last night so that I could deliver them today and make everyone's weekend. The only problem is that I have bookclub tonight, so I won't really be able to play with them until tomorrow. I can hardly wait. The A Muse workshop I took at Ink About It really got me into the mood to stamp. I want to churn out cute cards right away. I need playtime and the instant gratification that goes with it!

I've Gotta Wear Shades

I love my new sunglasses so much that I can't figure out why I never splurged on a pair before. They make commuting so much more comfortable. And they look pretty stylish to boot. Definately worth the extra expense to have prescription lenses added to them. If I could find an inexpensive provider of lenses I'd even consider getting multiple pair to change with my moods.

Snafu

Imagine my surprise when my quarterly loan bill from WPI arrived today asking for twice as much money. Then imagine my surprise when I realized that the actual bill was for someone else. Everything inside was for a guy who owes a lot more money than me with a last name probably next in the list after mine. Address. Social Security number. Loan balance. Recent payment history. The only thing related to me was the address on the outside.

A few quick phone calls to fellow alums assured me that I probably wasn't alone. Someone else probably has my bill and my personal information. One thing is certain: WPI is sure to have some 'splaining to do.

Domesticity

Is it wrong that I want to neglect my wifely duty to feed my husband, fresh from a 5k charity race, to give myself more time to make spinner cards?

Working Out

A hilarious video from OK Go, courtesy of YouTube. Personally, I want to see the outtakes from the shoot. And I want to know how long it took them to perfect it. Not a bad song either. I have one of their others on my work-out mix. How apropo.

Decisions, Decisions

I ended up choosing Flower Filled and Stinkin' Cute along with Happy Everything and the Paisley background stamp. Stinkin' Cute was just too stinking cute to resist and I think Flower Filled will be really versatile. The order is supposed to be placed today so we should have our goodies in our hot little hands in about two weeks. I personally can't wait.

Forgetful

Ever forget to do something that you've been reminded to do multiple times? I keep doing it. For some reason, I can't hold much of anything in my head for long these days. Take today for instance. I host a biweekly meeting at work to show off new additions to the network. Sometimes we invite people in. I've been asked many times to send out reminders when we have a guest and even recently worked out a schedule for those reminders with management. But could I actually remember to send them? Apparently not because someone will be here in an hour and I'm the only one that knows.

I wish it were just bad luck, but this sort of forgetfulness is happening more and more often. I write things down, but I have to remember to look at it and half the time I can't remember why I wrote things down. Even worse, I can't remember if I was more or less forgetful before I started taking mind-altering medications.

Stamp-tastic

Even though there wasn't a big turn out, I think Sunday's workshop was a big success. Deb showed us a ton of techniques and tools. Probably more than I've seen in the last six years of stamping. Now is the hard part: placing my own order. I'm so indecisive sometimes. Now that I've narrowed my list down, I can't decide which ones I want:

They're all so cute! How on earth am I going to be able to choose?!

Five on Friday for August 4, 2006

Shop-a-holic

1. What are your five favorite stores?
Target. Eddie Bauer. Pottery Barn. William Sonoma. JoAnn Fabrics & Crafts.
2. Is there any store you absolutely hate going to?
I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart, but the damned thing is right across the street and I'm miles from the closest Target. I also hate wireless/mobile phone stores. They feel so shady, even when there's a brand name on the front. But sometimes you just have to feel the phone in your hand before you buy it.
3. Do you pay with cash, credit, debit, or something else?
Credit. I don't like paying with cash or check. I do want to switch to a debit card, but that involves switching around my bank accounts and direct deposit.
4. Do you prefer to shop in person or online?
I love the smells and textures of in-person shopping. Not to mention the instant gratification. The perfectionist in my loves to shop online because of the tremendous variety.
5. In the last six months, what single purchase has been the most important to you?
Quite possibly my Dunkin' Donuts cup cozy. It was ridiculously cheap but saves me a lot of frustration and keeps my iced coffee colder longer.
