Treats

I'm still around here somewhere. Yesterday I burried myself in football and stamping. Today, I spent the evening with Jon and Steve at Chili's avoiding trick or treaters. I'd like to say I haven't been online that much, but the truth is I have. I just haven't really thought much about updating.

My New Neo [Desk] Pet

This is my new desk toy, a pink Aisha NeoPet. She kind of reminds me of a cross between a cat and a dinosaur. With strange antenae. She doesn't have a name yet, but she's certainly cute.

Apparently NeoPets are all the rage among the younger set. If you're the sort that gets sucked into games easily, you probably won't want to click on that link. NeoPets are a virtual pet, not unlike the Tamagotchi that were popular a few years ago. They have to be fed and played with, but the twist is that you have to buy food and playthings for them using NeoPoints you earn on the Web site by playing games and going on quests. Trust me when I say it's addictive. Jon is already hooked.

We're lucky enough to have a relationship with them at work which means occasional perks, like adorable little plushies to sit on our desks. And to think, I was going to rush out and buy one on ebay. Maybe I will if I can find one that actually looks like my NeoPet, a friendly green Xweetok.

Busy Beaver

Have I really been so remiss in posting here? I didn't realize how busy I'd been until I scrolled down my site this morning and saw how few posts there were.

I signed up for a few stamping swaps earlier in the month and they're all due in the next couple weeks, so I've been spending a lot of my time finishing them up. And reorganizing my crafty space. I've determined that it won't be well organized until I have a giant house with a huge space dedicated to it. And undergo a genetic mutation that eliminates all my messy tendencies. Like that will ever happen...

I also haven't added many of the cards and projects I've been working on to my galleries because so many are for special people or swaps. Sharing them here would totally ruin the surprise. That and I don't have image-editing software at work so that I can catch up at lunch. I promise to work on updating the galleries this week so you can see all of the cute stuff. And trust me, it's wicked cute. I'll leave you with a peek into my gallery at SplitCoastStampers, which has a few little cards I made earlier this month.

Six Offbeat GTKY Questions

From Becca:

  1. You can press a button that will make any one person explode. Who would you blow up?
  2. You can flip a switch that will wipe any band or musical artist out of existence. Which one will it be?
  3. What is the first song that you can remember calling your "favorite"?
  4. You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go?
  5. One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren't really doing anything, they're just standing around your bed. What do you do?
  6. Suddenly, you have gained the ability to FLOAT!!! Whose house are you going to float to first, and be like "Dude, check it out... I can FLOAT!"?

  1. Provided it doesn't harm my apartment, the guy next door who accidentally parked in my spot Saturday night without his parking sticker so I'd know I could just go steal his to bring in my load of groceries.
  2. Clay Aiken
  3. True Blue by Madonna. Although I'm sure my mother knows of others I called my favorite before them (like Little Brave Sambo and Alley Cat).
  4. Michigan. Should've answered this yesterday so I could make it to game 2 of the World Series at Comerica.
  5. Tell Jon to feed them and roll back over.
  6. Someone who needs some work done of their roof, so I can be handy. Maybe my sister so she could evaluate the scientific reasons for the floating.

The Last Straw

I am straw challenged.

Although they're supposed to be less messy, I am either getting all the bum straws or haven't figured out how to use one properly. It seems like every time I use one I'm dripping my drinks onto something. Often myself. I'm like one of those excitable ball players who makes a move with the ball before catching, except I'm taking the cup and straw away from my mouth before I've finished my sip, causing iced coffee or soda to come flying out at me. I'm sure I know three-year-olds with better straw skills than me.

I may not be smart enough to properly drink out of a straw, but at least I'm smart enough to keep Tide To Go pens handy.

Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes

Or two! Introducing my latest shoe finds:

Sienna is a terribly stylish and comfortable boot from Cloudwalkers. I have been happy with all of the shoes I have purchased from the Avenue in the last year, probably because they carry 11s and 12s in wide and extra-wide all the time. I needed a winter shoe with a heel to wear with my tall pants (Sidenote: Can't anyone make a 33.5" inseam? do they all have to be 32" or 35"?) and figured boots would be perfect and stylish. I wore them on Friday, and although they could probably use a cushy insole for heavy walking, they were a perfect fit.

Brandel should solve my brown shoe blues. I've been scouring the internet for a pair of brown flats in my size that aren't loafers or moccassins for the last two months. Enter Target and their fabulous selection of trendy, yet modest shoes. They've been carrying more 11s around here, and though not all of them fit, a few do. Like these extra cute t-strap mary janes. They are *just* what I've been searching for and at a great price to boot. [Note to self, try 11s in store, buy 12s online.]

Sleepy Weekend

I haven't felt overly tired during the last week, but I slept my butt off this weekend. On Friday night I slept for 11 hours. On Saturday night I slept for another 10, then napped with Silly on the couch for another two in the early afternoon. Each time I woke up (even if I got up) I felt like I could've kept on sleeping. It was wonderful, even if it made the weekend feel shorter. It's a shame that my restful sleep isn't usually restful for Jon because I'm snoring.

Congratulations!

After eight years, Kevin and Gillian are finally married. I hope their tropical honeymoon (which starts Monday) is as wonderful as their wedding.

Margaritaville

I need a giant margarita. With extra tequila. Or maybe just skip the limes, sugar, and salt and head straight for the tequila.

It's just been that kind of morning.

Inspiration

Today's Five on Friday was inspired by the parade of UPS trucks swarming onto Route 3 from the UPS hub just off 129 in Chelmsford. They appear every day, starting just after 9 am. There's something about that long line of big brown trucks that just makes me smile. Think of all the happy people receiving packages today because of them. The scale of it is just awesome.

Art For You From Me

The first five people to respond to this post via e-mail (sarah at criminalgrace.com), will get some form of art, by me, about them. I make no guarantees about quality or type, but I will assure that I will give it good effort.

The only catch, of course; as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well. But don't worry, I won't hold you to it.

Applicious

I made my first apple pie of the season yesterday and it was incredibly tasty. I used the Courtland apples Jon picked up at the grocery store since we weren't able to make it out apple-picking. Although they were tasty, they got a bit mushier than I would've liked. The next pie needs an apple that holds up to baking a little better, like a Granny Smith or Northern Spy. It was nice to make a real dessert though, even if I cheated by using refrigerated crust. Yes, the domestic goddess used a Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crust. It was flaky, delicious, and made the pie almost effortless.
