The Great Flood of 2007
The Merrimack river has overflowed it's banks once again. Lowell declared an official State of Emergency a few hours ago and I was offered a chance to go home to secure my property and possessions. Last year's 100-year flood just caused large puddles and soggy ground in my neighborhood. The water-level in the marsh behind our building rose significantly, near the top of the retaining wall for the parking lot, but not into our yard or building (that I know of). I'm wagering that we'll be safe again this year and declined the offer to go home, even if I would like to spend an afternoon securing my belongings into cardboard boxes for easier transportation. It also makes me curious about the water levels in the stretch of the Merrimack behind our new place.
